If you are looking to sell cnc machines, listing the machines for sale on Craigslist is an option some people will explore. There are certain obvious pros that listings your machine on Craigslist will bring, but of course there are negatives as well when compared to other options. Pros

Free - The  main reason someone will decide to sell CNC machines  through Craigslist is that machinery does fall into a free listing category. So if you are able to sell it for as much as you would when selling on ebay or selling through a Used CNC dealer, you will not have to pay the fees they charge.

Customization - You are able to set your listing exactly you like it, and not be limited to restrictions you may see elsewhere. This includes adding your phone number or contact information so people can discuss with you offline, schedule and inspection etc. something you are not supposed to do on eBay.

Local Targeting - Craigslist has very targeted geographic locations, so when you post your machine, you likely will be able to schedule an inspection pretty easily, with someone local. Unfortunately posting in multiple cities is considered spam and goes against Craigslist terms of use, but may be legitimate if the cities are close and it is appropriate for both (a CNC machine likely would be). You can see their restrictions here.

Cons
  • Time - One of the biggest cons of selling on your own through Craigslist  is the amount of time that goes into it. Setting up your post typically will not take that much time (only one posting every 48 hours), but fielding inquiries may. You may have dealers reaching out because they want to sell your machine, or just frequent spam inquiries that come through.  If you are a business owner, or work on the machine regularly, what is your time worth? While you have a full time job, it may not be worth trying to list on your own.
  • The buyers - To go into more detail on the above point, dealing with the buyers on Craigslist can sometimes be more than frustrating. Flaky buyers that schedule to show up either don’t or cancel on you last minute, and the casual buyers who are just looking and want to ask questions are common. Lastly of course, a lot of people that are searching on Craigslist are searching for a deal and will come in with a low ball offer. Yes, you will be saving money on fees from other outlets, however often the Craigslist buyer will want to receive at least that difference in return.
  • Fraud/Safety - Unfortunately Craigslist does not protect a seller with any guarantees, like you can on Ebay or through a dealer. You never know who you are dealing with, and letting them into your shop to walk around can be uneasy. Additionally, there is no guarantee a buyer will pay you, there are many scams out there so be wary of counterfeit checks or bank wire when selling on Craigslist.
